Digital Agency Full Carbon Audit for B Corp Certification

Summary

As a B Corp, Properllernet put people and planet at the centre of what they do. They had already completed carbon measurements and supported projects to remove or reduce emissions.

Propellernet contacted C Free as they were looking to improve the accuracy and granularity of reporting so that a credible baseline year could be measured and appropriate targets for reduction set.

We conducted a comprehensive carbon footprint calculation to help them understand and tackle their emissions across scope 1, 2 and 3. Not only will this help them in their goal to reduce their impact on the planet, but will also form an important component of their upcoming B Corp recertification.

Challenge

Propellernet are a very fast moving and dynamic team. However, they do not have the resources of a major corporate. They have many different activities and expenditures that make manually capturing this information pertaining to their carbon emissions a challenge.

We needed to find a way to capture the nuances of their company activity without requiring significant manual data entry or costing that of a traditional carbon consultancy.

Approach

Using our revolutionary expense categorisation system we were able to create a carbon map of the company emissions using expenses that went far beyond the typical level of detail.

Thanks to Propellernet's detailed expense descriptions, we automatically categorised their expenses into carbon emitting categories (as opposed to traditional account codes which typically are not well suited to carbon accounting). We could further augment this by using AI to extract key information about their activities to avoid using inaccurate methods to calculate the emissions.

Results

We produced an interactive carbon dashboard for Propellernet. This allows them to inspect their footprint on a granular level in order to gain insights and, ultimately, make reductions.

We also produced their GHG-protocol compliant report giving them the information they need to validate and compare their calculation amongst peers.

Outcomes and Impact

With these documents and reports, Properllernet have demonstrated their commitment to sustainable practices. With the insights gained from their dashboard they will be able to set out a plan informed by data as to their optimal carbon reductions route. Furthermore, they are now well prepared to renew their B Corp status in the coming years.
